Whole Genome Sequencing is considered the new gold standard for genetic testing. In fact it has led to an entirely new field called genomics. While most other commercially available genetic DNA tests read your DNA at about 600,000 positions (~ 0.02%), Whole-Genome Sequencing covers more than 6,000,000,000 positions in your genome (~ 100%). Having your entire DNA sequenced unleashes the power of genomics allowing you to obtain a much more broad and relevant set of reports, be constantly updated with new findings as science progresses and never need to re-sequence your DNA again.
The NIH Genetics Home Reference is a great resource to fundamental topics related to human genetics: https://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/primer
Whole Genome Sequencing 30X means every letter of the DNA is read on average 30 times. This is considered a best practice and gives you a very high degree of accuracy and reliability. 30X coverage is widely accepted as the global standard within the genomics scientific community.
You will receive the Health, Wellness, Nutrigenomics, Fitness and Drug Reaction reports. Additionally, you will also be able to download raw data in FASTQ, BAM and VCF formats. All the reports, also the customized ones on specific diseases and conditions of interest, are generated by the Dante Labs bioinformatics team through our proprietary software.
Your data is stored in our secure Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud in the United States and Europe. We are compliant with GDPR and UK Cyber Essentials, required by the NHS and GINA, Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act. We have a sophisticated cloud structure to protect your data. After you send us your saliva sample, your data, your samples, results and reports will be identified uniquely by the barcode on the saliva collection tube. Your reports and results include no personal identification information (ex. no name).
We currently only sequence saliva samples. At this time, we are not able to sequence from blood or other types of tissue samples. Please be informed that all of the instructions for saliva sample collection are on the box you will receive from us. For best sequencing results do NOT eat, drink, smoke, brush your teeth or chew gum for 30 minutes before collecting your saliva sample. Also ensure you have a good oral hygiene on the day you collect your sample (e.g. don’t forget to brush your teeth after your last meal, avoid days in which you might have a cold or the flu etc…). There are no age restrictions to provide a saliva sample. Your sample will be valid for around one year at room temperature.
