Aging Management Medicine

Aging is marked by the development of wear and tear in the cells and tissues of the body, and the onset of the so-called age-related diseases: obesity, type 2 diabetes, sarcopaenia, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, atherosclerosis, hypertension, heart attack, stroke, cataract, hearing loss, dementia and cancer. The incidence of all of these diseases increases rapidly with old age, and exponentially in the case of cancer. Chronological Age is but a number. You are only as old as your Biological Age, the wear & tear age of y0ur cells.

Aging Management is a tool for Healthy Aging, living a life free of disabling disease and infirmity, with full capacity to function independently. It aims at increasing health-related quality of life and life span. Aging management is first and foremost the prevention of age-related body changes and diseases. Beyond this, aging management involves interventions on the biological mechanisms of aging, to the extent of our current scientific understanding and technological capabilities.

Any aging management program has to start with building optimum for age body composition, metabolism and fitness level, through diet and exercise. It requires intact or well functioning cardio-respiratory and neuro-musculo-skeletal systems, that is your heart and  lungs, brain, spinal cord and nerves, muscles, joints and bones. Aging management cannot cure established disease, however it increases the natural resistance to disease occurence. After disease has occured, succesfull aging management requires rehabilitation to a good functional level.

The 40-60 years old life stage, appears to be the window of opportunity for a previously healthy subject, to address the aging process. Once started Aging Management is an ongoing longterm endevour in order to maintain gains on the Biological Age, therefore it has to become a lifestyle.
