Aging is marked by the development of wear and tear in the cells and tissues of the body, and the onset of the so-called age-related diseases: obesity, type 2 diabetes, sarcopaenia, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, atherosclerosis, hypertension, heart attack, stroke, cataract, hearing loss, dementia and cancer. The incidence of all of these diseases increases rapidly with old age, and exponentially in the case of cancer. Aging Management is a tool for Healthy Aging, that is living a long life free of disabling disease and infirmity, with full capacity to function independently. It aims at increasing health-related quality of life and life expectancy.
Chronological Age is but a number. You are only as old as your Biological Age. Aging management is first and foremost the prevention and treatment of age-related body changes and diseases. Beyond age-related diseases, aging management involves interventions on the biological mechanisms of aging themselves, to the extent of our current scientific understanding and technological capabilities. Any aging management program has to start with building optimum for age body composition, metabolism and fitness level, through diet and exercise. All other interventions build on the benefits achieved through these two basic ones.
The 40-60 years old life stage, appears to be a window of opportunity for a previously healthy subject, to address the aging process. Most interventions will have the highest benefit with the least amount of risk. Unless there are special circumstances we recommend aging management from the age of 40, for both males and females. Once started Aging Management is an ongoing longterm endevour in order to maintain gains on the Biological Age, therefore it has to become a lifestyle.
